The world community is facing huge environmental challenges. At Oppboga and Kapag, we are endeavouring to address one of them by helping convertors and brand owners transition from plastic to paperboard packaging. Our paperboard is a renewable resource and therefore represents an important facet of the EU’s bioeconomy strategy, which aims to replace the use of fossil carbon with bio-based carbon to achieve a circular and low-carbon economy.

Screw and nail box for outdoor use
For outdoor construction, builders need packaging that withstands moisture. Otherwise, cartons that hold building materials get soggy, and as a result, they do not close properly or they rip and lose their contents. Conventionally, hard plastics, as well as PE laminated or wax coated paperboard, have been employed for the packaging of nails and screws. Thanks to our paperboard Oppboga Resilient™ we can now offer a packaging material that is:
- water resistant;
- free of PE or wax coatings;
- made of virgin fibres sourced from responsibly managed forests (FSC certified);
- recyclable using existing paper recycling infrastructure; and
- compliant with the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.
Additional benefits include:
- excellent brand exposure: compared to a plastic box, the entire carton can be printed; and
- competitive edge: a major brand’s pilot test at retailers showed that customers chose the cartons made from Oppboga Resilient™ over plastic boxes.
Flat skin for the packaging of fresh food
Flat-skin packaging is used for the packaging of fish and meat and other fresh foods of various shapes. The food product is vacuum sealed onto our paperboard Oppboga Robust™, which is covered by a thin polymeric film. When the pack is opened and the food item removed, the consumer can easily peel off the polymeric film from the paperboard and recycle the materials. Oppboga Robust™ replaces the conventional plastic tray used for this application and:
- reduces the amount of plastic in the overall packaging by up to 75%;
- is recyclable using existing paper recycling infrastructure;
- is made of virgin fibres sourced from responsibly managed forests (FSC certified); and
- complies with the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.
Additional benefits include:
- excellent brand exposure: compared to a plastic tray, our paperboard can be printed on both sides;
- competitive edge: our robust paperboard allows for the food item to be presented hanging or standing in chilled cabinets, giving the food product an excellent shelf presence; and
- prolonged shelf life: the combination of paperboard, polymeric film and barrier skin film allows the food product to be securely sealed under vacuum, extending its shelf life and reducing food waste.
Gift carton for sweet or savoury pastries
Supermarkets and food outlets often sell their food in plastic packaging. We offer a food-approved barrier board that does the same job but in a more sustainable and aesthetically pleasing way. Our barrier can be applied to an SBS board of your choice and
- is recyclable using existing paper recycling infrastructure;
- is made of virgin fibres sourced from responsibly managed forests (FSC certified);
- provides a barrier against water vapour, oxygen, MOA/MOSH and odours;
- is heat sealable; and
- complies with the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.
